The little girl took one hard, final look around her room. There were so many things she needed to take with her—the dress shoes she wore for Easter, the stuffed-animals lining her bed, the new tea cup set her parents surprised her with for Christmas. How could she choose just one?
“How are you making out in there, sweetie?” her mother called from the kitchen.
Her mother picked up a cardboard box from the corner and put it on the table and began silently wrapping her own mother’s fine china in newspaper, carefully placing each item in the box one by one. She turned from the box when the reporter on TV caught her attention. One hour left until mandatory evacuation for Wildwood, New Jersey, it read on the bottom of the screen.
